Stage
Warm up. A friendly first run. Build accuracy before you chase speed.
How to play Word Runner
- Start the run and read the word on the approaching obstacle.
- Type its letters in order to clear the obstacle before the runner reaches it.
- Keep your eyes on the next word. Try a harder stage after you can finish words consistently at the current pace.
Read the whole word before typing. If a word repeatedly slows you down, practise it without a timer before another run.
Next, try Key Kingdom, browse all free typing games, or use untimed typing practice to work on troublesome characters.
What this game trains
Reading ahead. The obstacle arrives whether or not you have finished the word, so the only way to keep moving is to take in the whole word before your hands start rather than spelling it out letter by letter. That is the single habit that separates a 40 WPM typist from a 70 WPM one.
Who it suits
People who are accurate but slow, and who notice they type one character at a time. If you are still hunting for individual keys, Key Catcher is the better starting point.
Common questions
Why do longer words feel easier than short ones here?
Because a long familiar word is typed as one movement while a short unfamiliar one is typed as separate letters. Length is a poor predictor of difficulty; familiarity is a good one. Words you have typed thousands of times leave the fingers almost without thought.
Is it better to be fast or accurate in this game?
Accurate. A mistyped word costs the obstacle, so speed bought with errors loses ground rather than gaining it. The scoring on this site weights accuracy above raw speed everywhere for the same reason.
