Privacy Policy

The lessons, the typing test and the games all work without an account. Used that way, nothing you type leaves your browser and we hold no personal information about you at all.

If you choose to create an account, we store your email address and your typing results so your progress is there when you come back. That is the whole trade, and it is optional. There is no advertising and no analytics on this site.

Your keystrokes are processed entirely in your browser to calculate speed, accuracy and which keys you find difficult. That analysis is shown to you at the end of an exercise and then discarded. It is never transmitted or stored on a server.

Two preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage so the site behaves consistently between visits — your theme, and whether the on-screen keyboard and finger guide are shown. These never leave your device.

We store the following, and nothing beyond it:

• Your email address and password — handled by Supabase, which provides authentication. Passwords are hashed and are never visible to us.
• A display name, if you set one.
• Your typing results — the speed, accuracy and duration of each exercise you complete, which levels you have finished, and your experience points.
• Per-key statistics — how often each key and finger was correct, and which characters you confuse with which. This is what produces the analysis of why you are slow, and it is the reason an account is worth having.

We do not store the text of what you typed. The statistics are counts and timings derived from it.

Signing in sets session cookies so you stay signed in. The cookie policy covers those.

Your email address is used to sign you in and, if you ask us to, to recover your account. We do not send marketing email unless you have explicitly opted in, which is off by default and recorded with the date you turned it on. We do not sell or share email addresses with anyone.

Account data is stored by Supabase in their Mumbai region, in India. The site itself is served by Vercel. Both are processors acting on our instructions, and neither uses your data for their own purposes.

The site is served by a hosting provider that, like all web hosts, records standard request information such as IP address, browser type and requested page. These logs exist for security and reliability, are handled by the host, and are not combined with your account or used to build a profile of you.

Typometer is built for learners of school age and above, and everything except saved progress works with no account and no personal information at all. We do not, and will not, run behavioural advertising directed at children.

If you are under the age at which you can consent to this on your own — 18 in India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and typically 13 to 16 elsewhere — please ask a parent, guardian or teacher before creating an account. If you believe a child has created an account without that consent, contact us and we will delete it.

You can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and all of its data to be deleted. Deletion is permanent and removes your progress along with the account.

If you never created an account, there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete: the preferences described above are already entirely under your control in your own browser.

When the product changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page changes with it. The sections describing advertising are generated from the site’s own configuration rather than written by hand, so this policy cannot describe a version of the site that is not actually running.
