Measurement changes what it measures, which is a problem in almost every field that takes it seriously. Count something and people begin to optimise for the count. The skill is in choosing a number that is difficult to improve without also improving the thing you actually care about.

Notes on this level
What this level is training
This level does not introduce a new key. It drills the right index, left pinky, left middle, left ring, left index, right thumb, right middle, right pinky, right ring fingers on keys you have already met, at a target of 40 words per minute and 94.8% accuracy.
Speed at this stage comes from removing hesitation rather than from moving faster. If your accuracy is above the target but your speed is not, the gap is almost always time spent deciding, not time spent pressing.
Stuck on this level?
Most difficulty at this stage is technique rather than effort. These explain the technique.
- Keyboard finger placement chartWhich finger types which key, and why the home row matters.
- How to improve typing speedWhy speed plateaus, and the specific habits that raise a ceiling.
- How to learn touch typingWhat actually works, what to ignore, and how long it takes.
